Questions and Answers

Can I ask for discounts for skating (or cycling) lessons?
The prices are fixed and NOT negotiable. After comparing the rates, transportation cost, traveling times and convenience, if you can find someones are offering better private skating lessons, please go ahead and book their classes. Do not come to me with your own equations and request for discounts.

How can I trust you after I have made the full payment?
Frankly speaking, I have no idea how I can convince you. I can only say that I have been coaching since 2003 and have more than 3800 private skating and cycling students as of September 2022. All payments are collected upfront or on the first lesson. You can pay by PayLah or PayNow if you want to keep transaction record. But if you are skeptical about payment, just engage other schools/coaches so you don’t have to worry I will run away with your money.

I have found a coach teaching at lower prices, but I prefer to engage you for class. Can you match the prices?
My rates are not negotiable. You may go on and book that coach’s class. You may like his class too.

Shall I get inline skates (rollerblade) or quad (roller) skate?
I was always asked whether they should learn inline or roller skates. It depends on what do you want to achieve eventually from skating. I found a very good website explain inline vs roller skates. Read it before you decide. – https://www.cora.org/inline-vs-quad-skates/

Do I need to make a deposit when I book your slots?
You don’t have to make any transactions prior to the class starts. You can pay when we meet up for class.

Will you issue invoice/receipt for my class?
Soft copy invoice/receipt will only be issued upon request after full payment is made.

I want to take the 4 (or 8 lessons) package. Can I do a trial first but reserve the remaining slots?
If you want to do a trial first, I will only confirm the trial’s slot. The remaining slots will only be confirmed after the trial, and provided they are still available then.

Can you come to my place to teach?
Basically, I can go anywhere in Singapore main island. Due transportation restrictions, I cannot teach in Sentosa island. I have also stopped coaching in some condominiums as the managements want charge me for coaching in the premises.

Where are the locations you conduct your skating classes?
Students have the benefit to decide where they want to have the lessons. Classes can be conducted near to the students’ houses and offices. This will save the transportation costs and times of the students.

Do you have class schedule, and how can I book?
You can check my available slots. Submit the dates and times of your preferences. I will get back to you to confirm the class.

Will I be able to skate when I have completed the package?
I won’t be able to assure you will be able to skate independently after my lessons. Learning is mutual and it depends on many factors. If there is a skating coach / school can guarantee you will be able skate after their lessons. Go sign up with them. Make sure they honor their words and refund unconditionally if you still can’t skate.

Can I join your existing classes?
All my groups are private classes formed by each individual groups. No joining of existing classes are allowed. You have to start your own class.

Are skates and safety gears provided?
No. I don’t have an inventory of skates and safety gears for students.

Can skating help me to loose weight?
By just doing sport, be it skating or running, alone will NOT help you to loose weight. You need to combine sport and planned diet to burn more carbo than consume.

Other skating schools’ lessons are 1.5hrs per session. Why is yours only 1hr?
I asked some of my students whether they preferred 1 or 1.5 hours. Nearly all replied that 1hr was just fine as my classes were small, and I always gave precise instructions and pin-point solutions. They would rather have quality than quantity sessions. My sessions are exhausting, like an hour of personal training. Some students actually called for stop before the full one hour.

I know your 1 session is 1hr. However, can I request to do 2hr (2 lessons) per session?
If you think you are fit to sustain 2 consecutive hrs, or 2 lessons per session, we can do that.

Do I have to complete the program within a certain period?
No, you don’t have to. I do not set time frame and expiry dates for the program.

I had sent my booking form some days ago but there was no reply from you?
An auto generated acknowledgement email will be sent to you immediately after your submission. And within 2 days, I will personally reply to all booking and enquiry. If you have not received my replies, please check the spam folder.

Can I transfer the unfinished slots to someone?
Yes, I allow students to find replacements if they can’t continue deal to some unexpected reasons.

你可以用华语教导溜滑轮吗?
我可以尽我所能, 不过有一些技术术语将会用英语表达 .

I am a beginner and have never skated before. Shall I take 4 or 8 lessons?
It depends on what you want to achieve from my program. I have outlined each package’s curriculum. You can take a look. You can always start with 4 lessons. If you think you want to continue after 4 lessons, you can sign up another package.

I am afraid of falling. Do you have a method that I will not fall?
If I say I have a no-falling method, will you actually believe me? Instead, come to my class with safety gears and learn to fall safely.

I want to book 4 lessons but my working hour is erratic. Can I confirm the first lesson first and book the remaining slots later.
Yes, you can attend lesson first and book the remaining slots as we progress.

I have a group of 7 people want to learn. But you only take maximum 6 students per group. It there a way to resolve?
I will advise you to break the group into 2. You can arrange the 2 groups to take lesson one after another. However, please note the rates is charged according to the class size.

Will there be any make up lesson if I can’t attend lesson deal to weather, work commitment or sick?
Yes, there will be. However, you will need to inform me at least 2 hours prior to the lesson. For group class, if one student can’t attend, I will recommend the whole class reschedule the affected slot. This is because if the lesson continues, there will be no make-up lesson for the absentee.

What do I need to prepare for the lessons?
Students will need to get their own rollerblades and safety gears. Bring along some drinking water.

My kid is 3 years old. Can he learn skating from you?
Personally, I don’t coach kids who are less than 4 years old. Reasons being they are too young to understand instructions and their legs’ muscles are still weak. Parents will also have hard time to find small skates and safety gears for them.

I am not sure whether my kid will continue the lessons, will there be any trials?
Student can sign up for the One Time Trial and pay the respective rate. If student decide to continue after the trial, student will just need to top up the balance. more details.

As kids grow fast, shall I get a bigger pair of blades?
Actually, there are kid skates which are extendable.

How many students do you need to start a class?
You can do a 1-to-1 class or gather a group of friends to start a class. However please note that different class size will have different per pax rates.

I am completely new to skating, how many lessons do I need in order to skate?
There is no definite answer. Some students pick up faster while some slower. It depends on many factors on the students. However, from personal observation of average students from my class, students are able to stride, glide, (A-frame) turn and (heel-brake) stop by lesson 4.

My friend and I are interested to learn skating but we stay in different areas. Where will you conduct the class?
We can have lessons at one of the students’ place or a third place where we all can compromise.

I want to sign up intermediate lessons but my friend want to sign up beginner level. Can you teach different levels in same class?
Yes, my lessons are very flexible. I can teach different skills in same class.

I want to sign up for the intermediate class, but I already know some of the skills. Can I learn something else?
Yes, you can. However certain skills may require you to have good fundamental techniques. Thus, requests will be treated case-by-case.

Will I able to do ice skating after I learn to rollerblade?
Sure you can. Rollerblading and ice-skating use same methods to stride and glide.

Do you conduct classes for companies and schools?
No, I don’t conduct classes for companies and schools. I prefer small private classes which give me more freedom and no red tapes.

Do you coach slides and slaloms?
I don’t coach slides and slalom. You can view “Levels & Skills” for what I coach.

Do you give certifications after the course?
No, I don’t hold such graduation ceremony.

Ryan is a patient cycling coach who teaches beginners to cycle in a very systematic and effective way. He quickly identified where the beginner is in terms of ability to balance and pace the lessons according to progress of learner. I am a 59 yr old senior citizen and I am picked up cycling under Ryan's able coaching in just 2 hours over 2 lessons.

I heard about this wonderful coach through a friend. She signed up 2 kids for cycling lesson and both are able to cycle after 1 hour lesson! I went to read more on the reviews and many said the same. I signed up my boy for the lesson, he can cycle independently 40 min into the lesson. The money is well spent! Cycling is one of the life skills like swimming and driving, I’m glad to know this amazing and friendly coach who can instantly bond with kids. I’ve since recommended him to my friends as well. Spread the word now!

Highly recommend. Clearly, Ryan was extremely experienced and systematic in his teaching. His methodology works. I was somewhat sceptical too initially, but fortunately I gave it a try. My unwilling son picked up cycling in a matter of 2 lessons (of an hour each due to his concentration span) and only fell once throughout the whole time. Thank you, Ryan!

We have chance upon Ryan through his website and we are so lucky that we did. He has successfully taught both my kids 4 and 6 to skate inline skating. He is so patient and the learning techniques which he uses is very effective in enabling both my kids to be very proficient in skating within 2 terms and Ryan was also the one that suggested that they are good enough where they can be graduated! So thank you Ryan!! Definitely recommend that you take up his lessons!

Ryan has a unique and very patient way of teaching the kids. Both my girls were extremely comfortable with him. Highly recommend using Ryan’s services for both cycling and Skating! Nidhi

My two kids wanted to learn skating so I went to search online for skating lessons. What I found online were mostly big classes and we had to travel to designated locations. Luckily, we found Ryan, who was able to come by our place to teach the kids, and in private group so the kids could pick up faster. Ryan was very patient and systematic in his teaching, and my kids were able to skate after 4 lessons. After that, my sis and I also took up a 6-lesson package to learn skating too. Ryan was very friendly and skillful, and often offer us tips and share his experiences with us. He also shared with us on what to look out for when buying skating blades and equipment. Plus, we liked the "doorstep" convenience of his services. Thank you Ryan!! Will be contacting you soon to coach my kids on cycling next round! :))

Got introduced to Ryan through word of mouth. He is patient with my kids. Both of which are in the lower primary level. Ryan is flexible, adjusts the teaching according to their ability and progress. This keeps my kids engaged. They loves the lessons throughout. I think we had 12 sessions in total. I am happy with their progress and that they are having so much fun. Good job, Ryan!

I have a special need son. I had contacted a few skating schools and hoped that they could teach my son to skate. But they turned me down when they knew about my son’s condition. So when I signed up a trial session with Coach Ryan, I did not tell him about my son’s condition. Ryan was surprised when he met my son. However he did not turn away. Instead he showed lot of patient and demonstrated the steps again and again endlessly to make sure my son could understand. My son has been learning from Ryan for more than 6 months now. My son enjoys skating with Ryan very much and always looking forward to the weekly skating session with Coach Ryan. Thank you so much, Ryan.

Don’t let a few unsuccessful attempts dampen your passion to skate and cycle. Everyone is unique and has different background. Some tend to have good balancing instinct by nature, some are not. Skating and cycling aren’t difficult if you endorse a systematic learning program. I have been coaching since 2003. I have good successful rate because I always start from the very fundamental of the sports.
